AYBT Tournament summary 5/23 & 5/24

4th Grade girls
Went 3-2 for the tournament. Could have easily went 5-0. The two losses were close.

Saturday 9:00 am
VS The Crush
Won 19-14
Early games are always tough, started slow but picked it up in the second half. Defensive pressure is where we change the game, all the girls have learned that we can create offense from our in your face defense. Angela Perry led all scorers. Our four guards(Kyleigh Vaught, Anna Lowis, Bev Watson, Emily Jessup) were a big factor in causing the Crush to turn the ball over which led to easy layups. Great job ladies.

Saturday 11:00 am
VS Staunton
Won 44-18
First half pressure defense created point for our team. Second half work on our zone offense. Our girls did a great job of getting plenty of open looks at the basket by moving the ball. Angela Perry again led all scorers. All the girls scored in this game. Chloe Simpkins did a great job getting on the floor after loose balls. Ella Flesner, Mackenzie Trees, Caroline Daily, Denzelle Moore did a great job on rebounding and running the fast break.

Saturday 3:00 pm
VS Predators/Sinclair
Won 31-20
Great game for both teams, always tough to play another Predator team. Down most of the first half but our guards made a run which put us up. Second half went back and forth with our defense pulling it out for us. Great job to both Predator teams.

Sunday 9:00 am
VS Athens
Lost 26-16
As stated earlier we seem to struggle with early games. We were in the game but turnovers hurt us. It seemed as if everyone ate fried chicken and still had the grease on their fingers. The shot selection was not the best. We were chucking 3's for some odd reason. Just could not get anything to drop. Athens has a nice squad.

Sunday 11:00 am
VS Ft Wayne Wolfpac
Lost 29-28
Was worried if our shooting slump from the earlier game that morning would carry over. Needed everything to drop against the Wolfpac to win. Led from the opening tip until 1:00 left in the game. Anna Lowis and Kyleigh Vaught played defense on one of their best players. Held her to 2 points. Our girls did a great job of boxing out(Bev Watson, Chloe Simpkins, Mackenzie Trees). Did a great job on rebounding(Angela Perry, Ella Flesner, Denzelle Moore, Caroline Daily). Great job by Emily Jessup on the defensive pressure. We were patient with our shots and the shots were falling. We actually looked like a very good basketball team. All the girls stepped up and played an awesome game. Even though we lost we played an unbelievable game. This game showed our girls that we can play with the best 4th grade girls teams in the area.
